I'll be your local reviewer for Hong Kong made movies, the kind that Jackie Chan has made internationally famous. My intention is to provide various DVD reviews that cover the golden age of the 80s/90s Hong Kong action flicks, so that you may discover what you are missing from the pre-"Rumble In The Bronx" days. It should be noted that you can still rent most of these titles from your local VHS store and discover these classics for yourself, however they can either be the earlier English-dubbed cut Pan&Scan; tapes, or the newer Chinese uncut Widescreen tapes. Stat tuned for what is available on DVD!
Movie Reviews

Aardman Classics (Region 2) on 02/07/01
From the creators of 'Wallace & Gromit' and 'Chicken Run'
A collection of animation shorts from the people who did the 'Chicken Run' movie and of course 'Wallace & Grommit'. [Full Review]

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (Region 4) on 07/11/01
"You Really Love Animals, Don't You?" ... "If It Gets Cold Enough!"
In short, we can now claim to have the worst of the three DVDs available for this movie title. If I had more dollars than cents then I'd probably still purchase it simply for the movie's quirkiness and all-out fun factor... [Full Review]

Babylon 5: The Gathering / In The Beginning (Region 4) on 11/11/01
Makes 'Star Trek' look like a picnic ...
Warwick enters the world of Babylon 5 with The Gathering and In The Beginning ... let's see what he thought of it. [Full Review]

City Hunter (Region 2) on 30/06/01
City Hunter, Having Fun (from Theme Song :-)
I'm sure that even the most ardent of Jackie Chan fans may find this movie difficult to appreciate at first, as it may well take a few viewings to get past the barrier of absurdity that is there only for the sake of the comic book... [Full Review]

Clint Eastwood: Out Of The Shadows (Region 4) on 29/10/01
Out of the Shadows...
I personally loved the laid-back approach of this documentary, which makes for an entertaining and relaxed way of learning... [Full Review]

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Region 4) on 23/07/01
Hmmm, can't see any Tigers or Dragons here, but what a movie!
Warwick Gaetjens has started flying about while carrying out some martial-art moves; this can mean only one thing, he has just done a review of the region four version of CTHD! [Full Review]

Dirty Harry (Region 4) on 28/10/01
"Now you know why they call me Dirty Harry ... I do every dirty job that comes along"
Now the moment you've all been waiting for - Dirty Harry the original... [Full Review]

Drive (Region 2) on 30/06/01
The drive of your life....
Warwick Gaetjens reviews a low budget Steve Wang movie, that has got to be one of the best Hong Kong action movies every to come out of the USA. [Full Review]

Emperor's New Groove, The (Region 4) on 15/11/01
"Oh boohoo. Now I feel really bad. Bad Llama"
Warwick takes a look at The Emperor's New Groove and tries to ignore the hidden messages!?! Let's see what he thought of it ... [Full Review]

Enforcer, The (Region 4) on 25/10/01
"Why must you carry that cannon?" ... "So I can hit what I aim at."
Yet again, Warwick reviews another one of Clint Eastwood's classics, The Enforcer. Warwick, are you sure you don't like Clint Eastwood? ;) [Full Review]

Goonies, The (Region 4) on 18/11/01
"Hit Puree!" ... "No, I Want To Play The Violin!"
Well Warwick never even knew the Goonies existed before as a movie (let alone a DVD), so let's see what his first impressions of the DVD is in this comprehensive review of The Goonies. [Full Review]

Gorgeous (Region 4) on 12/07/01
"You're Gorgeous" ... "I Know" (movie dialogue)
Released for the Chinese New Year in 1999, this is probably Jackie Chan's first ever entry into the love story genre, however his action fans are definately not forgotten ... [Full Review]

Hannibal (Region 4) on 02/08/01
"I'm Giving Very Serious Thought ... To Eating Your Wife"
If you were expecting a "Silence Of The Lambs 2" (aka "Manhunter 3"), then I'm afraid you'll be very disappointed. The claustraphobic environment in "SOTL" that helped to centre your attention purely on Hannibal's menacing persona is virtually non-existant here... [Full Review]

Lethal Weapon Legacy Box Set (Director's Cut) (Region 4) on 09/12/01
"I'm (Not) Too Old For This Shit"
It feels like forever since the Director's Cuts of the initial Lethal Weapon trilogy first appeared on VHS over a year ago. Admittedly, most of these scenes were kind of redundant in terms of enhancing the story (except maybe for the original Lethal Weapon) but it's nice to see them restored back into the movies for this new quadrology DVD box-set. [Full Review]

Magnum Force (Region 4) on 20/10/01
"How can you be hungry after seeing that?" ... "Seeing what?"
This might not be the most favoured installment with the true fans of this series, but if you don't mind a non-taxing night of old-time entertainment (and an ending that will make you think), you can't go wrong here... [Full Review]

Miracles (Region 2) on 03/07/01
How a rose can change your life forever.
This is the full length director's cut; Miracles was the most expensive Hong Kong movie made in 1989, but was it worth it? [Full Review]

Mists Of Avalon, The (Region 4) on 21/02/02
The legend of King Arthur takes on yet another interpretation ...
Regardless of the surprising contraversy of the faithfulness towards the original book, this is definately an enjoyable 3 hours worth of story-telling. Don't judge the book (film) by its cover and at least give this one a rental, decide for yourself... [Full Review]

Outlaw Josey Wales, The (Region 4) on 15/01/02
"You Gonna Pull Those Pistols Or Whistle 'Dixie'?"
I did enjoy this movie, even though I expected the slow pace to wane my interest before long, however the characterisations provided a great variety of detail that helped keep my interest up... [Full Review]

Pacific Heights (Region 4) on 02/11/01
They're the perfect couple, until a stranger moved into their lives.
Warwick gets a bit annoyed at Warner for releasing discs for region 4 in NTSC instead of PAL, oh, and he reviews this Michael Keaton movie. [Full Review]

Romeo Must Die (Region 4) on 24/11/01
"You're Not The Only One Who Knows Some Shit"
If it's action you want in Romeo Must Die, then you'll have to be extremely patient. My debut viewing had me thinking that the story was quite interesting and complex... [Full Review]

Shrek (Region 4) on 06/11/01
"Oh, I Suppose You Were Expecting Prince Charming" ... "Well, Yes!"
Warwick goes on a journey into the world of CGI effects by reviewing Shrek. Let's see what he thought of it... [Full Review]
