Film Four Titles (Region 2) at 14.45 on 10/08/02 |
|
Well, it's a depressingly dull Saturday afternoon, so I'll bring the region 2 announcements up to date. First up, Film Four has announced a couple of titles that you can expect to see over the next month or two. First up we have Lucky Break starring James Nesbitt, Olivia Williams, Timothy Spall and Bill Nighy.
Lucky Break 'Something strange is going on at HM Prison Long Rudford. The hard men of B wing are going soft. They're putting on costumes and wigs and taking singing and dancing lessons. They've turned Thesp, for an awfully amateur production of the prison governor's musical, Nelson - The Musical. But all is not what it seems. Behind the theatrical posturing lies an elaborate escape plan. Ringleaders Jimmy and Rudy have come up with what they consider a watertight scheme to coast their way to freedom. But all is not plain sailing when a romance blossoms between Jimmy and his co star Annabel Sweep, the beautiful Prisoner Support officer, and Head of Prison Security Perry smells something fishy.'
You should expect the DVD release of Lucky Break to carry a commentary, featurette, "on location" featurette, cast and director interviews, theatrical trailer and the teaser trailer. The DVD will be presented in 2.35:1 widescreen and will carry a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. Lucky Break will be released on the 19th August.
Bully 'Bully, based on a true story, sees Larry Clark return to the violent and disturbing underworld previously documented in his controversial and provocative 1995 debut Kids. A couple of good-looking small town teenage slackers, Bobby and Marty, have known each other forever. They work dead end jobs, do drugs and hustle cash by selling porno home videos and queer phone sex. The sadistic Bobby treats Marty like a toy, dominating him brutally and efficiently. It's how they have always been. They hook up with beautiful, spoiled Ali, and her awkward, vulnerable friend Lisa for a double date on the beach, where Ali is viciously humiliated by Bobby. Lisa falls in love with Marty, and Bobby feels his control slipping.....things get ugly.'
You can expect the region 2 release of Bully to carry a 1.85:1 anamorphic presentation and a Dolby Digital 2.0 track. Features wise, the disc will contain interviews with the cast and crew, 17 minutes of "B Roll footage" and trailers for other Film Four releases. Bully will be released on the 16th September this year.

MIB 2 Coverart (Region 1) at 01.08 on 10/08/02 |
|
Finally, before I hit the sack here's a look at the coverart for the upcoming DVD release(s) of Men in Black 2 starring Wil Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. If you can't read the tiny little letters, the cover on the left is for the widescreen version of the film, and the cover on the right is for the full screen version. At least widescreen fans get the nicer cover this time..I personally think we're getting the less attractive one for Spider-Man...anyone agree? Anyway, MIB2 is still playing in most cinemas so unsurprisingly the specs haven't arrived yet, but you should expect them some time soon. We'll obviously bring you those specs as soon as they arrive. Sorry about the size of the pics, but I didn't want to slow down the front page too much! That's it then for tonight, I'm off to the land of nod. TTFN. |

Scooby Doo (Region 1) at 00.47 on 10/08/02 |
|
Secondly Warner have now unleashed the full specs for Scooby Doo starring Freddie Prinze Jr and Sarah Michelle Gellar. The film did pretty well at the boxoffice, so it's getting a pretty solid DVD release which is nice to see. Here's what you can expect from this one:
Anamorphic Widescreen Transfer 2 Commentaries with Cast and Crew Behind-the-Scenes Documentary 2 Featurettes 10 Minutes of 'never before seen footage' "Land of a Million Drums" Music Video Easter Eggs DVD-ROM Features including 7 Interactive Challenges
As we previously reported, you'll be able to pickup Scooby Doo on the 15th October. Again, a fullframe version of the film can be picked up if you are that way inclined! Both packages will retail at around $26.95. Thankyou to DVDFile.com for the info. |

Insomnia (Region 1) at 00.32 on 10/08/02 |
|
I've got a couple of region 1 announcements I can add before going to bed, so I'll crack on with this because I'm knackered! Firstly, Warner Bros have announced all the juicy details on the upcoming release of Insomnia starring Al Pacino and directed by Memento's Christopher Nolan. Here's the full rundown on the features of the disc:
Anamorphic Widescreen Presentation English and French Dolby Digital 5.1 Tracks Audio Commentary by Director Christopher Nolan Audio Commentary by Hilary Swank and crew Deleted and Extended Scenes with Optional Commentary 180: A Conversation with Christopher Nolan and Al Pacino 'In the Fog' Featurette 'Eyes Wide Open' Featurette Day for Night: The Making of Insomnia Posters, Production Designs etc Theatrical Trailer DVD-ROM Features
Can't say I was a fan of Memento (it did my head in), I've heard this is nothing like it though so I might pick this one up. Incase you are wondering, you will be able to pickup a seperate fullframe version for the same price. You should expect to see Insomnia in shops from the 15th October for around $26.98. |

24 Competition (Region 2) at 16.56 on 09/08/02 |
|
We've got together with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment to bring you another great competition! This time we have a copy of the 24: Season 1 boxset starring Kiefer Sutherland. Here's a little about the series:
'With a Golden Globe nomination for Best TV Series and winning the Best Actor award for Kiefer Sutherland, 24 has taken a massive share of TV ratings both in the US and the UK, becoming the most talked about series of the year. Filmed in real-time and combined with split-screen scenes of simultaneous action, 24 takes place hour-by-hour over 24 hours on the day of the Californian Presidential elections...'
To be in with a chance of winning this great piece of television on DVD, all you have to do is answer one simple question which you can find on the competition page here. The competition closes on the 2nd September this year. Just incase you don't win, you'll be able to pickup the DVD in shops from the 19th August for the bargain price of 44.99. Not bad for 24 hours of entertainment. |

Potter's Field Review (Region 1) at 16.29 on 09/08/02 |
|
Just a quick news article to let you know that Holly Ordway completed her review of Brother Cadfael: The Potter's Field last night and it has now been added to the site. The film stars Derek Jacobi and was directed by Mary McMurray. Here's an extract from Holly's review:
'Brother Cadfael is used to solving mysteries around Shrewsbury Abbey, but The Potters Field presents him with one thats more baffling than most. Brother Ruald, a former potter, has cast off his wife in order to join the order of monks, and the field that he used to work (the potters field of the title) has been given as a gift to the abbey by the lord for whom Ruald used to work. All seems in order, until a plow working the potters field turns up the body of a woman who looks suspiciously like Rualds wife...'

Mulholland Drive (Region 2) at 15.45 on 09/08/02 |
|
Vision Video Ltd has just announced a DVD release for David Lynch's, multi-award winning, Mulholland Drive starring Laura Elena Harring, Naomi Watts and Justin Theroux. If you don't know much about the film, here's a little about the storyline:
'Los Angeles, Mulholland Drive, a woman in a limousine realises she is about to be murdered, but she is saved when the car she is in is involved in a crash. Stumbling from the wreckage she takes refuge in an empty apartment. Next day she is discovered by Betty, a fresh, perky aspiring actress who has just arrived in town to stay in her absent Auth Ruth's apartment. Claiming not to remember a thing from her ordeal, the mysterious woman takes her name from an old movie poster (Gilda) and re-names herself Rita...'
Hmmm, certainly sounds interesting! The DVD itself will contain the theatrical trailer, cast and crew biographies and cast and crew interviews. You should expect to see the release of Mulholland Drive on the 9th September this year. |

Windtalkers (Region 1) at 15.33 on 09/08/02 |
|
I really should be ashamed of myself. I missed the announcement for a Nic Cage film!! MGM has announced the details on a rather disapointing DVD for Windtalkers which was directed by John Woo. Because of the poor run at the box office, MGM obviously aren't too hopefully for the disc either. Here's what you can expect though:
2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen Presentation 5.1 Dolby Surround Track Production Notes 2 Trailers
Oh dear.....it can't be that bad surely? As I had previously reported, you can expect the DVD release of Windtalkers on the 15th October this year. Though I'm not as convinced that I want it for my birthday now! You should expect to pay around $26.95 for the title. |
